Since forty years, submarine vents, or rocky water-spewing chimneys on the ocean floors, have been a main focus in the search for the origin of life. 
Prof. Michael Russell presents his hypothesis for the origin of life in these submarine vents. He explains how these submarine vents are attractive candidate locations as their structure contains many small pores. These pores serve as little pockets where water and elements can concentrate and react. He gives insight in how the prebiotic chemistry in these vents could have resulted in the formation of chemical compounds essential to life.
